The history of abortion in America has been contentious since the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision. With Roe overturned, the issue now lies with individual states. Although the national impact has shifted, state-level political battles continue. The focus remains on promoting the Gospel of Jesus Christ to make abortion unthinkable.
Despite the constant political and social debate, few Americans know how we got to the place where close to one million unborn children are aborted each year in our country. For millions, Roe has always been law. If we are ever going to be able to overturn Roe v Wade in hearts, we must first learn what led to the infamous decision and what needs to happen now that it has been reversed.
Today we will hear from the former VP and General Counsel for Americans United for Life, Jeanneane Maxon. She will share with us the legal and cultural forces that brought about Roe v. Wade and the historical impact of that decision. She will also explain what would happen if the Court overturned Roe. Download and print this worksheet for use with the lesson.
